Direct Drive Wind Turbine Permanent Magnet Generator - Axial Flux Interior Permanent Magnet Topology (AFIPM)

Designed by: Jay Salsburg

This PMG utilizes Air Core, none-torus coils and does not employ Ferrite core technology. It is a DIY design for the purpose of generating electricity at very low speeds, driven by a Wind Turbine, either horizontal (HAWT) or vertical (VAWT) axis. My design fits well between the higher cost of other designs and cost per watt. It is entended for direct drive and does not need pulleys or gears to make it operate at higher speed. It is designed to operate at high efficiency at low speed. However, if it is to be used for Micro Hydro Electric generation, a method will be needed to increase the drive speed.

Much care must be taken constructing and using this generator. I am not responsible for its use of misuse. Be aware that 6 Neodymium Magnets are needed which cost from $300 to $600 each, depending on the quantity purchased. This generator will weigh several hundred pounds and produce lethal voltages. While it is operating in moderate winds, generates significant power, able to power an average Home and provide surplus power for profit. The 'Flywheel-Magnet' assembly must be precision Milled and, after its assembly, must be precision balanced. Precision bearings and seals must be employed.
